After a successful presence last year, in which our volunteers assisted with retrieving flying gazebos and consumption of copious cakes, Friends of Furzefield (the school’s parent teacher association) invited us to make a repeat appearance this year.
The weather in the morning was looking a decidedly iffy but we still fielded two volunteer bikes, our new marked bike and the mini moto on site under our own gazebo, ably staffed by our Acting Chairman, Hospital Liaison and another regular volunteer.
Highlight of the day for us and her students has to be the school’s headmistress, Mrs Susan Chrysanthou, allowing us to take publicity shots on two of the bikes, after which she managed to blag a pillion ride with our Chairman! That meant the third bike had to be used, being the only one suitable, and her grin says it all – one happy lady.
Our presence appears to have been a complete hit again this time, and we have a number of enquiries to follow up for recruitment as well, where we were deliberately focussing on our assistance to the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance and our neighbouring counties
