Throwback Thursday to last month when we celebrated fleet bike Mason’s 1st birthday. Mason was donated to us by The Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of London in 2018 and since entering service, this Yamaha FJR1300 has done nearly 13,000 miles on duty.
For his birthday, Mason was on daytime baby milk duty with volunteer Steve. The day started with a wash and polish to make sure Mason was looking his best.
Despite a lazy morning, a call eventually came in just after midday. Steve and Mason set off not returning home until 67 miles and six hours later. Daytime duty is very different to doing runs at night: there are many more drivers, pedestrians and pigeons to slow you down. And today apparently also pigs!
However, you do get noticed, particularly when you’re looking as dashingly clean as Mason did on the day: members of the public acknowledge you with a wave and a thumbs-up. This shift saw Steve and Mason safely deliver four boxes and one sample at no cost to the NHS.
