On arrival at Redhill Aerodrome this evening, to carry out the daily blood restock of the Air Ambulance, our volunteers Alan and Erik were greeted by the sight of the helicopter already spinning up ready for take off. This short video tells the rest of the story.
As you’ll hear, and might already have guessed, they weren’t able to return both boxes to East Surrey Hospital as is usual procedure, as one was literally leaving that minute. Indeed, you can see it in the paramedic’s hand as he walks away from the car and camera to board the helicopter.
However, Alan popped back two hours later when the helicopter had returned, to complete the task. This time, the blood wasn’t needed, so it was returned to East Surrey Hospital where it can then be used in scheduled or emergency operations before it goes over its Best Before date!
