Bike Tours For The Wounded ride out to the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

A different type of delivery for our SERV SSL volunteers on Sunday 13th August. Our members supported Bike Tours For The Wounded by escorting over a hundred military veterans, their friends, family and motorbikes from the M4 services at Heston to the Royal Hospital Chelsea. SERV SSL used a combination of marked bikes and the volunteers own machines to keep the snaking motorbike convoy together through the Sunday morning London traffic.

On arrival all concerned were treated to hot dogs and coffee in the beautiful grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea before being given the opportunity to take part in the Chelsea Pensioner’s weekly Sunday morning parade (it had clearly been a while since some of our members had graced a parade square with their presence)! Then it was onto the chapel for a rousing service before being granted a tour of the hospital by the Chelsea Pensioners. This was then followed by the offer to be entertained in their mess. Rumour has it that one member even managed to escape with his wallet intact!

All things considered, a most excellent way to spend a glorious Sunday morning with fantastic company.
