On Sunday morning at 06:30, one of our volunteers had their bike stolen from a gated residential compound in south-east London. The thieves rammed the gates with a van, threatened the 24-hour porter and made off with just this bike, so it was obviously a specifically targeted theft.
The stolen bike this time is a 2011 BMW S1000RR in red, white and blue, registration LD61 UKG, fitted with a tracking device which has since been activated but nothing yet heard, and Police are in possession of CCTV footage. Unfortunately, the van is thought to be stolen and/or on cloned plates.
This is the second such theft affecting our members this year. The first was stolen while a member was actually on duty, and was never recovered, in spite of an extensive social media campaign.
Incidents like this seriously affect our ability to offer the services that we do, effectively taking a valuable volunteer out of action until the insurance is sorted out, and we all know how long that can take!
